Green Futures Event & Career Fair

Info

Overview

The Green Futures Event offers students an invaluable opportunity to explore careers and pathways within the sustainability sector, sparking interest in roles that directly contribute to a healthier planet. As we push toward net-zero goals, demand for “green skills”—knowledge and abilities that support sustainable development and environmental stewardship—is rapidly increasing. However, because green jobs are often absent from traditional curriculums, students may miss the chance to understand or even imagine themselves in these future-focused roles. Events like this bridge this gap, giving students direct insights into careers in areas such as renewable energy, environmental policy, sustainable design, conservation, and more.

The event empowers the next generation to not only envision but actively participate in building a sustainable future, ensuring they are prepared to meet the challenges of a changing world and contribute meaningfully to the global climate effort. It also provides a unique opportunity for local businesses to engage directly with these students and employees of the future in a meaningful and engaging way.

Key Elements

The Green Futures Event offers students an engaging and comprehensive look into sustainability careers through three main elements: a career fair, talks from industry professionals, and hands-on workshops.

  1. Career Fair: The event begins with a career fair where students can connect directly with representatives from various green industries, such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental consulting, and conservation organizations. This fair showcases a diverse range of career paths, from engineering and science roles to business, policy, and creative positions that contribute to a more sustainable world. Students can ask questions, gather informational resources, and even learn about internships, apprenticeships, and training programmes that can help them prepare for future opportunities in these fields.
  2. Industry Talks: Throughout the day, students will have the chance to attend inspiring talks by industry professionals who are at the forefront of the sustainability sector. These speakers—from climate scientists and ecologists to entrepreneurs and green tech innovators—share their journeys, insights, and the impact of their work on the planet. The talks are designed to provide students with a sense of real-world challenges and rewards in the sector, allowing them to see how their own passions and skills can translate into meaningful careers.
  3. Interactive Workshops: To make the learning experience immersive, the event includes hands-on workshops where students can engage directly in sustainability practices. Through these interactive experiences, students not only gain practical skills but also a better understanding of the science and technology behind sustainable innovations. These workshops can be themed around pillars of the Schools Charter and will be co-created by the businesses and London Clean Air.

Together, these elements ensure that students leave the Green Futures Event with a well-rounded understanding of the green economy, the skills required, and the potential impact they can make by choosing a career in this vital area.

Camden Businesses

In order to ensure that the businesses at the event are relevant, we will have some criteria in place. Businesses will not be required to meet all of these, but we would expect them to align with the majority.

  1. Company’s mission and vision. We will assess whether the company’s mission and vision emphasize sustainability, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. Companies with a clear commitment to sustainable practices, reducing environmental impact, and promoting green innovation are strong candidates.
  2. Their Products, Solutions, or services. Evaluate the environmental impact and sustainability of the company’s products or solutions. Prioritise businesses who offer eco-friendly, renewable, recyclable, or energy-efficient products as well as those who promote sustainable practices such as renewable energy, circular economy principles, or waste reduction.
  3. Camden businesses. We will prioritise businesses that are based in the Borough of Camden to promote local employment and increased engagement with the community.
  4. Offer opportunities. Businesses that are actively promoting opportunities such as work experience, internships or apprenticeships are ideal candidates as this will provide students with tangible outcomes.

Schools Involved

Year 12’s from every sixth form in the Borough of Camden will be invited.

Students must book a free ticket in order to attend, and we will ask the Sixth Form colleges to promote this internally. Students do not need to attend with their whole class or with their teachers, as they will be able to attend independently. For this reason, the event will start towards the end of the school day to minimize disruption.
