Last month, we held the fourth annual community cycle ride, this time as London Clean Air!
The London Clean Air Cycle Ride 2024 was an incredible success, bringing together a vibrant community of cycling enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and supporters of clean air. Held on a sun-drenched Saturday, the atmosphere was filled with infectious energy and camaraderie.
Participants of all ages and backgrounds gathered at Granary Square, ready to embark on a scenic 22+ km journey through iconic locations like Hampstead Heath and Regent’s Park. The sight of cyclists dressed in blue or with creatively decorated bikes added a festive touch to the event, embodying the spirit of fun and community.
This lovely group of ladies was awarded our Best Dressed in Blue prize, but everyone truly looked like a winner!
We kindly had 40 e-bikes from our partners Forest, so anyone could ride whether they had a bike or not! Forest reflected on their experience at the ride,
The London Clean Air Cycle Ride was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday, and Forest was so excited to meet dozens of people signing up and using a Forest e-bike to take part. Meeting fans of the service, and new members of the family, across all ages reminded us how important it is that everyone contributes towards the decarbonisation of our transport environment and ensuring that clean air is a possibility across all of London. The enthusiasm was infectious, the sun was shining, and people couldn't wait to climb aboard their very own Forest e-bike for the day. It was a great success, and we cannot wait to come back next to do bigger and better things in partnership with London Clean Air.”
Young riders who could not ride an e-bike could still join us, thanks to the generous donation of free bicycles for low-income participants from our fellow Camden-based non-profit, Your Bike Project.
The event drew a diverse crowd, from little kids who ride to school to older people keen to stay active. Everyone enjoyed the day of fun, fitness, and green advocacy, leaving with a renewed commitment to make our city a cleaner, healthier place.
Our repair partners, Fettle, were present at the start line to fix up any bikes that needed some attention before they kicked off their ride across London. They shared their experience of the ride with us,
“We thoroughly enjoyed attending the London Clean Air Cycle Ride and joining them as sponsors for the second year in a row. We loved making sure the participants' bikes were safe to roll and engaging in multiple conversations with the community. These green initiatives are so necessary for our city, and we were happy to be a part of it. It's crucial to empower green commutes and show people how beneficial cycling is, especially as London is changing for the better with every pedal stroke. We're proud to support such a vital cause and look forward to continuing this journey toward a cleaner, greener city.”
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated or volunteered at the event. Especially a round of applause to our amazing marshals, who allow us to make this ride a safe and accessible opportunity for riders of all levels. We truly could not do this without you all.
Thank you to King’s Cross for generously hosting us every year and have been instrumental in the success of this event and others. We also want to thank our partners and sponsors Fettle, Forest, Your Bike Project, and The Living Centre, as well as the lovely refreshment stop along the route, Sam’s Cafe Primrose Hill. Your support is instrumental in driving our mission forward. We look forward to seeing you next year for an even bigger and better ride!
Stay tuned for more events and initiatives from London Clean Air.
