Jeffrey Young is joined by The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Sabrina Francis who talks about her life and journey to becoming Mayor as well as her plans for the year. They discuss how the Mayor aims to raise funds for the charity Gingerbread and also highlight the hard work Camden’s hospitality industry and independent small businesses will be doing to recover from the impacts of Covid-19. The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Sabrina Francis
Sabrina Francis is a Labour councillor for Bloomsbury, currently serving her second term. She has lived in Camden with her mum and sister for her whole life and attended Brecknock primary school and Camden School for Girls. A true Camdener.
First elected in 2014, Sabrina is Camden Labour’s first black woman councillor. In 2020 she launched and chaired a Youth Engagement Group, giving young people from Camden the opportunity to co-design policy that tackles racial inequality in the criminal justice and education systems.
Before joining the council, Sabrina studied at Birmingham University and starter her career as an education worker for a charity that aims to get disadvantaged children into higher education. In 2017 she was recognised on the New Year’s Honours List for services to the University of London.
